Awesome Chore Chart + Freebie

You can find tons of chore chart ideas
and routine card ideas all over the internet;
however,
I never seemed to be able to find the {perfect} one.

Please understand I am not
saying any of the ideas listed below are bad in any way,
they just didn't work for what I wanted.

Here's what I was looking for...

1. Simple

• I wanted something my toddler could understand.
• I also wanted something that wouldn't be a lot of work for me. If it's going to require "mommy" to keep track and give tickets, stickers, marks, etc. chances are that it wouldn't become routine at our house because I don't always have the time. I wanted it to be something my daughter could do on her own.

 

This chore chart is honestly really cool,
but I knew there was no way my toddler could understand it.

2. Full View

• I wanted something that showed the entire chore list so we could both know right away not only how many items were left, but what was left to be done.

 

I LOVED this idea at first
and actually tried it at our house;
however, I didn't like having to pull out each item
every time I wanted to see what still hadn't been done.
I liked the versatility though,
which brings me to my next point...

3. Versatility

• I wanted something where jobs and routines could be switched between the children and where I wouldn't have to print a new chart every time I wanted to add/switch a job.

 

This chart is so stinking cute!

But no way to switch tasks...

4. Sense of Accomplishment

• I wanted my daughter to be able to mark it off ...something to give her the satisfaction of completing a job. 

 

This is a really cute way to be able to list the items,

but there wasn't anyway for her to mark them off once completed. 

5. Re-Usable

• I wanted a chart that I wouldn't have to re-print or buy every time she marked items off.

 

This is a fun chart,

but required me buying more stickers or charts.

6. Not Messy

• So then I thought if I didn't want to keep buying stickers and charts, you can always laminate it and mark it off with a dry erase marker...and then remembered markers and toddlers don't always go together.

 

This could work really well for older children;

however, I don't want to give my two year old

free reign of markers quite yet...

So what to do?

I set my brain to work and came up with

this Chore/Routine Chart and my daughter {loves it}!

 

This chore chart is {simple} enough for my
two year old to figure out at first glance.
She learned quickly to push the beads
from red to green when an item was completed
and could do it all by herself.

I love that I can look at the chart with her
and right away get a {full view} of what she has
left to do for the day.

This chart is so {versatile}.
Right now my daughter doesn't have chores,
just routine items which I got from IHeart Organizing.
I cut them up, laminated them, 
and placed Velcro on the chart and back of each item.
I can make new items, switch them between kids
and change it up any time I want!

My daughter loves pushing the bead over
to the green side to mark items as done.
{Sense of Accomplishment}? Big check!

Laminate the chore chart first,
and then using a needle and thread,
come up through the red side,
slide on your bead,
and then go down through the green side.
Tie both loose ends into a knot on the back of the
chore chart and secure with a piece of tape.



Last of all,
this chore chart can be {re-used} indefinitely
and is 100% {not messy}.
